She may have been the runt of the litter but there was absolutely nothing runt about her life. Darla was the most loyal, loving dog we could have ever wished for. She was able to spend most her days running free outside on our family farm, watching birds and looking for bunnies or ground squirrels with her sister Bailey. When we got home each day from work, she was always sitting in the front yard patiently waiting with her sister and more than ready to come inside and get treats! This girl LOVED her treats! She knew what time she would get them and if it got beyond her scheduled treat time, she would remind us! Cheese was her ultimate favorite! If we even moved a bag of cheese in the refrigerator she would come running, even if sound asleep! She had the most beautiful blue eyes and one blue eye had a bit of brown as well. She could talk to you through those eyes. She also was so handy with her front paws. If she didn’t think she was getting enough attention or needed your attention she would come up and smack you with her paw! Her nose too, if she wanted in a room she would just use her nose to open the door and push right through! She loved to sit right by me and make sure to rest her head on me. When she got sick, she tried for so long to act like nothing was wrong. Trying to be the strong Darla we always knew and take care of herself as she always tried to do. I’ll never forget the morning she let me know she just couldn’t do this anymore, there was something different about those beautiful eyes. We sat on the sidewalk outside our garage and watched the sun come up together in the still of that morning. Her head on my lap and a deer just stood in the field and watched us sitting there. With time, I know the great memories we have had with our sweet Darla will give us peace as well as her sister Bailey, who is also lost without her best friend. Thank you Frey Pet Hospital Drs, especially Dr. Ayers and all Staff for the support and compassion and dignity you showed us with our loving Darla. Your patience and kindness meant the world to us in our final goodbye.
