Bella came into my life when I was just 10 years old. My uncle had passed away, my mom and dad were going through a divorce, and my birthday was right around the corner. I told my dad that I wanted a friend, a pet that I could love and take care of. I never expected that one little guinea pig would become such a huge part of my life. When I went to the pet store, all the guinea pigs were adorable, but Bella was the only one who wasn’t eating. She was looking right at me, and I remember thinking that maybe she wanted me. When I held her and felt her little heart beating, I knew she was the one. From that day on, she became my best little friend. For nearly 9 years, Bella was always there. Through moving from home to home, changing schools, starting jobs, relationships, and growing up, she was always there. No matter what was happening in my life, I could always come home to her. I could talk to her, cuddle with her, and know that she was there. Bella loved her carrots, the fluffy pieces of hay, and being cuddled with me. She would always greet me, and those little moments meant more to me than I could ever explain. She made my childhood happier and my hardest days a little easier. I’m 18 now, and Bella passed away 3 days after my birthday. It hurts so much knowing that I’m moving into a new chapter of my life without her. I’m getting ready to leave for the Navy, and I wish more than anything that she could be here for this next journey. I wish I could come home and see her, talk to her, and hold her one more time. Coming home without Bella feels so different. There is an emptiness where she used to be, and I miss her more than words can say. But I will always be grateful that she chose me that day at the pet store. She was there for almost my entire life, and I hope she knew how deeply she was loved. Thank you for being my little friend, Bella. Thank you for growing up with me, for all the cuddles, the carrots, the hay, and every little moment we shared. You will always be a part of me, no matter where life takes me. I love you forever, my sweet girl. You will always be my first little friend. Until we meet again.
