JJ Kearney 2-16-13 to 4-20-26

JJ was born in Texas in 2013. We believe he was left in an outdoor kennel or possibly tied up to a leash outside during storms, which caused his severe storm anxiety. We also believe he broke free from the kennel or leash and was running the streets of Texas on his own for a bit, eventually ending up in a rescue, in which he was both fostered and adopted a couple of times, but his severe storm anxiety, landed him to surrendered, ultimately in a kill shelter.

Last Hope Animal Rescue brought JJ from Texas to Iowa in 2017. He had a couple of foster home in Iowa as well, until we applied to meet him. We had to keep JJ for a two-week trial period, but as this point Last Hope wanted to make sure that this would be his forever home. We fell in love with JJ instantly and despite his storm anxiety, we loved him with all of our hearts and he brought us so much JOY!

We ended up having to relocate in 2021 to Texas, so JJ made a full circle back with us to live his best life here in McKinney with us. Living in the apartment was an adjustment and we know he missed his yard a bit, but the love he always showed us didn’t appear to matter…as long as he was with us, JJ was safe and home!

We knew our time with JJ was limited because of his health and on April 20, 2026, we had to put JJ to rest while back in Iowa for a visit. The decision is never easy, but we were by his side loving him until he went to rest. JJ will live in our hearts forever.

Thank you Frey Pet Hospital for all that you did to take care of our sweet boy, JJ…love, Steve & Sue Kearney
