Bubbles, my Doberman, had a colorful and adventure filled life. Bubbles started her life with my dad. They went to the dog park weekly and eventually even traveled around the country in his RV. My dad was diagnosed with cancer and her adventures slowed but, my dad still took her everywhere…even to my sister’s wedding! When my dad died, my family wasn’t sure what we were going to do. Bubbles, as many of my future dog walkers and trainers would say, “was a lot of work”. At the time, I lived in Chicago in a one-bedroom apartment with my boyfriend, pug, and lab mix. I thought there is no way my landlord would let me take her. I texted him “Hey my dad died. Can I take his dog?” and he said “yes.” Of course, I didn’t tell him it was a 70 lb Doberman Pinscher but… he never asked. We quickly realized Bubbles was going to need a lot of training support to live in the city (leash reaction, fearful, having three dogs + dominant pug lol etc.). We raised money on GoFundMe so, we could get in-home dog training and do classes ($$). About a year later, we ended up moving back to Iowa and buying my dad’s house. Bubbles and I became best friends. I truly think she was both my “soul pet” and my dad’s. We did everything together. When my daughter was born — it was an adjustment. Eventually as my daughter got older — they became inseparable. Otis, our pug, died a couple years ago from cancer. Cooper, our lab mix, passed away January 2025. It hit Bubbles pretty hard to lose Cooper. About a week and a half before Bubbles broke her leg and we found out she had cancer — we adopted a Doberman from the shelter. They were two peas in a pod. Bubbles last week and a half was filled with craziness, playing, and joy. Bubbles will be forever missed.
